How to Calculate CGPA at RTU

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the average of your SGPAs across all the semesters you have completed, weighted by the credits of each semester:

At Rajasthan Technical University the semesters carry different credits, so a plain average of your SGPAs is slightly off. The calculator above is pre-filled with RTU's official B.Tech semester credits (for students admitted in 2020-21 and later), so the CGPA it gives is credit-weighted, like RTU's. Change the credits if your scheme is different, or clear them all for a simple average. RTU rounds SGPA and CGPA to two decimals on the higher side (rounds up), and so does this calculator.

That is 166 credits in total (125 for lateral entry students, who start in semester III).

Example: Semester 1 SGPA 8.00 with 20 credits, Semester 2 SGPA 9.00 with 25 credits. CGPA = (8.00 × 20 + 9.00 × 25) ÷ (20 + 25) = 385 ÷ 45 = 8.56. A simple average of the two SGPAs would give 8.50.

RTU CGPA to Percentage

For B.Tech students admitted in 2020-21 and later, RTU's CBCS guidelines (clause 12(iv)) give the conversion as:

So a CGPA of 7.50 equals 75%, 8.20 equals 82% and 9.00 equals 90%. The calculator above shows your equivalent percentage next to your CGPA. Use this figure on placement and job forms that ask for a percentage.

RTU writes this rule for CGPA. For a single semester, students commonly apply the same formula to SGPA (SGPA × 10), but your official percentage comes from your CGPA.

RTU Division by CGPA

RTU awards the division from your final CGPA, provided you have passed every semester course (Table 12.1):

• CGPA 7.00 and above: 1st Division with Distinction
• 6.00 to below 7.00: 1st Division
• 5.00 to below 6.00: 2nd Division
• 4.00 to below 5.00: Pass

SGPA vs CGPA

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) measures one semester: the credit-weighted average of the grade points in that semester's subjects. CGPA measures your whole degree so far by combining every semester's SGPA. After your final semester, your CGPA is the figure on your degree marksheet.

RTU uses a 10-point grade scale: A++ = 10, A+ = 9, A = 8.5, B+ = 8, B = 7.5, C+ = 7, C = 6.5, D+ = 6, D = 5.5, E+ = 5, E = 4, F = 0.

How to Find Your SGPA for Each Semester

• RTU students: your SGPA is printed on each semester's result. If you have the result PDF, upload it to the RTU SGPA calculator and it calculates the SGPA with a subject-wise breakdown.
• SKIT autonomous students: use the Autonomous option on the SGPA calculator.
• Any other university: use the SGPA calculator for any university and enter each subject's credits and grade points.

You don't need all 8 semesters. Fill in only the semesters you have completed and the calculator gives your CGPA so far. If you have a back paper (F grade), RTU leaves that course out of your CGPA until you clear it, so your official CGPA can differ slightly from this estimate.
